Indian luxury sports car market gets Vanquish-ed

The emerging popularity of sports cars market in India has led Aston Martin roll out its luxury sports car Vanquish, pegged at Rs 3.85 crore.

With F1 debuting in India last year and growing income levels of HNIs, the Indian market is fast emerging as a destination for sports car manufacturers. Seeking a potential in the segment, British automobile brand, Aston Martin entered India in 2011, to create its market in the Rs 1-5 crore range. Recently, Performance Cars, its exclusive dealership in Mumbai, unveiled the Vanquish, which is the second most expensive car in the portfolio after the Rs 25 crore One-77. The other variants available in India include V8 Vantage Coupe, V8 Vantage Roadster, V12 Vantage, V8 Vantage S, DB9 Coupe, DB9 Volante and the four-door sports car Rapide, Zagato.

Vanquish, which is said to be the replacement for DBS as the brand’s top performing car, comes with improved features such as a newly designed and significantly more spacious cabin and a boot, which is more than 60 per cent larger than that of the DBS.

Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez said, “Vanquish is the ultimate expression of Aston Martin design ethos, engineering innovation and technical ability. It offers luxurious, continent-crossing capability and pure driving excitement without compromise.” He also added that the car bearing the same name as the iconic AM V12 Vanquish that did so much to cement Aston Martin’s reputation as a maker of great GT cars in the modern era, Vanquish once again puts the company at the top of its class.

In an earlier interview with Pitch, Andy Gawthorpe, Global Sales Director, Aston Martin said that the company is aiming to sell 15 cars in a year in the Indian market. The 100 year old company is also gung-ho about the emerging markets like India and aims at garnering 25 per cent sales from these markets. Even before its entry into the Indian market, the brand already had a high recall among potential consumers as being the James Bond car. Currently, the brand stands pitted against players like Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini and Rolls Royce, among others.

Commenting on Vanquish’s launch in India, Lalit Choudary, Managing Director of Infinity Cars said, “I am delighted to be launching Aston Martin’s newest and most technically advanced car yet – the new Vanquish. The new Vanquish mixes beautiful design with impressive technology such as the superb new infotainment system. This is the latest incarnation of everything Aston Martin knows, informed and developed from One-77. It is the ultimate Super Grand Tourer – confident and assured – and is the newest representation of Power, Beauty and Soul.

Apart from Mumbai, the UK based brand has only one more exclusive dealership in New Delhi.
