Will Lewis steps down as Publisher and CEO of The Washington Post

The Washington Post has announced that its Publisher and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Will Lewis, will be stepping down, following a week marked by major staff layoffs at the newspaper. The decision comes just days after the company disclosed plans to reduce nearly one-third of its workforce.

Lewis, who took on the role in January 2024, is set to leave the organisation in February 2026. He was appointed in November 2023 to succeed Fred Ryan and joined the Post after previously serving as CEO of Dow Jones & Company and Publisher of The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper stated that its Chief Financial Officer, Jeff D'Onofrio, will assume the role of acting publisher and CEO. D'Onofrio joined the publication in June last year and has previously held senior positions at companies such as Google, Tumblr, and Yahoo News
